As we continue our countdown to the new school year, Gerald Adams Elementary is excited to focus on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind!
This habit teaches us the importance of setting goals and making a plan to achieve them. It’s all about thinking ahead and asking yourself, “What do I want to accomplish this school year, and how will I get there?”
Why is goal setting important? When students set goals, they:
Stay focused and motivated
Build confidence as they achieve milestones
Learn responsibility and planning skills
Take ownership of their learning and growth
Tips for Students: Setting Goals for the New School Year
Think about what you want to improve (reading, math, organization, friendships)
Write down 2–3 goals for the year
Make your goals specific and realistic
Break big goals into smaller steps
Check your progress and celebrate successes along the way
Share your goals with a family member or friend for encouragement
Examples:
“I will read 20 minutes every night.”
“I will turn in all my homework on time.”
“I will be a kind and helpful classmate every day.”
By starting the year with a clear vision, our students are already on the path to success!
Stay tuned as we continue building strong leaders—one habit at a time!
