Brian Desilets and Tara Whitehead

The Monroe County School District is announcing key leadership transitions for the 2026–2027 school year.

Horace O’Bryant School Principal Brian Desilets will transition into the role of Director of Food Servicebeginning in June. Under Brian’s leadership, HOB has seen meaningful gains—discipline is down, school culture is stronger, and academic performance continues to rise. He has empowered teachers, expanded student activities, and elevated Buccaneer pride across the campus. His MBA and extensive leadership experience will serve the district well in a role that impacts every student, every day. Brian remains fully committed to finishing the school year strong and continuing to champion the Buccaneer mission.

MCSD is also pleased to announce that Tara Whitehead, current principal of Poinciana Elementary, will become the next principal of Horace O’Bryant School. Tara brings experience as both an elementary and high school administrator, along with a strong instructional background as a former teacher. Her leadership at Poinciana—where she strengthened family partnerships, built a culture of belonging, and led the school to two consecutive A grades—reflects her deep knowledge of pedagogy, data, and school improvement. Tara is excited to join the Buccaneer community and build on the strong foundation already in place.

These transitions position MCSD for continued growth and excellence as we look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year.
