State science fair winners

Five outstanding students from Monroe County School District (MCSD) recently showcased their original scientific research at the State Science and Engineering Fair in Lakeland. Representing MCSD with excellence, these students competed in both the senior and junior divisions against top young scientists from across Florida.

Competing in the Senior Division were:

  • Taylor Thomason of Key West High School (KWHS)

  • Lily Soca of Coral Shores High School (CSHS)

Competing in the Junior Division were:

  • Braelyn Dixon of Key Largo School (KLS)

  • Emily Reams of Stanley Switlik Elementary School (SLS)

  • Aiden McElheny of One School of the Arts and Sciences (OSCS)

We are proud to announce several notable achievements:

  • Taylor Thomason earned a Merit Award and 5th Place in the Animal Sciences category.

  • Lily Soca received a cash prize from the Florida Science Education Leaders Association for special recognition in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category.

  • Aiden McElheny earned special recognition in the Engineering category.

  • Braelyn Dixon received special recognition and a cash award from the Indian River Regional Science and Engineering Fair for her investigation in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category.
