Monroe County School District is proud to recognize this year’s School Counselor/Social Worker of the Year: Ashley Funston.

Ashley has served the Poinciana Elementary School community with dedication and heart for several years, becoming an integral part of the school’s culture and daily rhythm. She is known districtwide for her calm, steady presence in every situation, her warm sense of humor, and the deep admiration she earns from both students and staff.

Ashley approaches her work with thoughtful, student-centered decision-making and demonstrates an exceptional ability to tailor supports and interventions to meet each child’s individual needs. Her impact is evident every single day—and she carries that responsibility with humility, always keeping her focus on what matters most: the well‑being of students.

Her connection to the school community is unmistakable. Ashley seems to know every student by name, and it’s rare for her to walk through the hallway without being stopped for a hug, a question, or a moment of encouragement.

Monroe County School District congratulates Ashley Funston on this well-deserved recognition and extends our appreciation for her continued commitment to the students and families of Poinciana Elementary School.
