City Commission and Mayor Henriquez with Daliana Goins

The City of Key West, Mayor Danise Henriquez and the City Commission issued a proclamation recognizing March 31 as Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Day, underscoring our shared commitment to student safety and awareness. Daliana Goins, MCSD Coordinator of Threat Management and Harm Prevention, accepted the proclamation as one of the leaders of MCSD’s efforts to keep students safe.

The Monroe County School District is preparing for the 2026 Lauren’s Kids Walk in My Shoes events, which will take place at three Keys schools and culminate in the annual Key West community walk. Former Senator Lauren Book and her Walk Team will once again begin their 1,500‑mile journey from Key West to Tallahassee with a step‑off at the Southernmost Point on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

All MCSD elementary schools continue to use the Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum provided by the Lauren’s Kids Foundation, taught primarily by school counselors. This year’s activities will also include school visits from Lauren and her team on March 30 (Sugarloaf and Gerald Adams) and April 1 (Key Largo School), offering students engaging presentations on abuse prevention, advocacy, and personal empowerment.

Thanks to the coordination and leadership of Daliana Goins, these district and community efforts are aligned, well‑organized, and ready to provide meaningful learning experiences for students across the Keys.
