Paula Mercer is Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Monroe County School District’s 2025 Teacher of the Year — Mrs. Paula Mercer

Mrs. Mercer, an AP Government and Economics teacher at Key West High School, is being recognized for her exceptional instruction, her ability to reach every learner, and the inspiring classroom environment she creates for her students.

She is a school leader in every sense — founding the award‑winning Mock Trial Team, serving on the Building Level Planning Team, and leading the Senior Class with unmatched energy and Conch Pride. She also gives back to our community through her volunteer work with Special Olympics.

The selection committee praised her powerful instructional video, her strong student connections, and her thoughtful reflections on civic responsibility and student achievement.

We are incredibly proud to honor Mrs. Mercer and celebrate all of our outstanding school‑level Teachers of the Year: Heather Geaneas (SSE), Kyle Harrison (KLS),  Amanda Erikson (PKS), Jessica Richard (MHS),  Marisa Conaty (POI),  Danielle Thomas (CSH), Melissa Meier (SLS), Dara Hennessy (GAE) and Scott Polcha (HOB).

Congratulations, Mrs. Mercer — and thank you for inspiring Monroe County’s students every day.
