Our sixth grade students participate in an incredible learning adventure at the REEF Education Center, where classroom lessons come to life through hands-on exploration. During this experience, students explore local marine ecosystems and develop fish identification skills, discovering how specific habitats support unique forms of marine life.
As part of their visit, students design and build their own mangrove ecosystem models. They test how effectively these models protect the shoreline, gaining a deeper understanding of how natural systems help prevent erosion and safeguard coastal communities. π±π
Our young scientists also examine the remarkable adaptations that allow fish to survive in their environments. From body shape to coloration, students learn how each characteristic plays an important role in survival within specific ecosystems.
The experience also includes participation in a practice citizen science fish identification lab, where students strengthen their observation skills and learn how they can contribute to real-world scientific research. π¬β¨
This hands-on opportunity reflects our commitment to engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that spark curiosity and inspire future scientists. We are proud of our sixth graders for their enthusiasm, critical thinking, and active participation. ππ
