Key Largo School was buzzing with excitement as families, students, and staff came together for our annual AVID Family STEAM Night an evening dedicated to hands-on learning, innovation, and community connection. This yearโs event showcased the power of curiosity and collaboration as participants explored a wide range of interactive science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities.
Hands-On STEAM Adventures for All Ages
From the moment families walked through the doors, they were invited to dive into activities designed to spark wonder and critical thinking. Students:
Built and tested clay boats to discover how much weight they could carry before sinking
Designed popsicle-stick houses strong enough to withstand the โBig Bad Wolfโ
Created, tested, and refined paper airplanes for distance flights
Took to the skies in flight simulators
Constructed straw structures to explore balance and engineering
Learned about manatees, seagrass, and local ecosystems
Used microscopes to identify mystery objects up close
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, problem-solving, and genuine excitement as families worked together on each challenge.
Celebrating STEM Fair Excellence
During the event, we proudly announced the winners of this yearโs STEM Fair, including several special awards selected by our community judges. All finalist projects were displayed for families to explore, highlighting the incredible creativity, research, and dedication of our KLS students.
Community Support That Makes a Difference
A huge thank-you goes out to our wonderful PTA for providing delicious food to keep everyone energized throughout the evening. We are also incredibly grateful to I Smell Smoke, who generously donated their timeโand their grillโto prepare mouthwatering burgers and hot dogs for our families.
A Night to Remember
AVID Family STEAM Night is a celebration of learning and community, and this yearโs event truly showcased the passion and talent of our Tornado Nation. We are so proud of our students and so grateful to the families who came out to learn, explore, and create together.
