Students analyzing data

Our 5th graders in Ms. Pareja's took a deep dive into ELA Standard ELA.5.R.3.3, comparing and contrasting how different authors present the same story. Using two versions select fairy tales, students examined point of view, character motivations, and text evidence to understand how perspective shapes a narrative.

They worked in groups to identify:

- How each author portrayed the characters

- Key evidence from each text to support their thinking

- Similarities and differences in plot events across both stories

We loved seeing their creativity shine through as they illustrated each version and explained their reasoning with strong text evidence. Their discussions were thoughtful, lively, and full of insight—exactly what deep reading looks like.

So proud of our young scholars and the critical thinking they’re building every day!
