Monroe County School District is Florida’s first Suicide Prevention Certified District with 100% of both public and charter schools being recognized as Suicide Prevention Certified Schools.
As part of our MCSD’s ongoing commitment to supporting student well-being, mental health awareness, and suicide prevention education, some of our high school grade levels will have the opportunity to attend a special school day performance of the award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen.”
The production is intended to foster empathy, awareness, and thoughtful discussions about issues that affect many young people today. While these topics are presented responsibly and with educational value, we recognize that families may have different preferences regarding their child’s exposure to this material.
Parents/guardians may opt their high school student out of this production. Forms are available at all three high schools. More school-day performance information will be shared directly from those schools to their families. Counseling staff will be available at the production for students looking for more support or guidance and remain available year round in all of our schools to support students and families at any time.
Parents/guardians who would like to become more familiar with the content and themes of “Dear Evan Hansen” are welcome to attend a public performance presented by the Key Players. Details are available on their website, linked below.
The Key Players is a nonprofit community theater serving the Upper Keys, made up of many students and community members with strong ties to our local schools. We look forward to welcoming “Dear Evan Hansen” to all three of our MCSD high schools and sharing this important message with our students.
