At Gerald Adams Elementary, we are proud to be a Leader in Me School, where we focus on empowering students to become confident, responsible leaders in their own lives.
What is Leader in Me?
Leader in Me is a whole-school system that helps students build essential life skills such as responsibility, teamwork, goal-setting, and leadership—skills they can use both in and out of the classroom.
As we count down the last 7 weeks of summer, we will focus on one habit each week—starting with:
Week 1: Be Proactive!
Being proactive means taking initiative and making positive choices—even during summer break! One great way students can practice this is through reading
Tips for being proactive through summer reading:
Set a daily reading goal (even 10–20 minutes a day!)
Choose books that interest YOU—comics, mysteries, adventures, or nonfiction
Create a cozy reading space at home
Keep a simple reading log or journal to track progress
Visit the library regularly or explore digital books Share what you’re reading with friends or family
By taking charge of their reading, students build confidence, strengthen their minds, and stay prepared for the upcoming school year!
tay tuned as we continue our countdown and grow as leaders—one habit at a time!
