Taylor Lysiak named Teacher of the Year; Shannon Wiley earns Inclusion Teacher of the Year recognition

Marathon Middle High School is celebrating two outstanding educators whose dedication, creativity and commitment to student success have earned them top honors. Eighth-grade mathematics teacher Taylor Lysiak has been named the school's Teacher of the Year, while art teacher Shannon Wiley has been recognized as Inclusion Teacher of the Year.

Both educators exemplify the Dolphin spirit through their ability to connect with students, inspire confidence and create classrooms where learning and personal growth go hand in hand.

Teacher of the Year: Taylor Lysiak

For Lysiak, teaching mathematics is about much more than numbers and equations. As an eighth-grade Algebra and Pre-Algebra teacher, she brings energy and enthusiasm to her classroom, helping students tackle challenging concepts while building confidence in their abilities.

Principal Christine Paul praised Lysiak's ability to make mathematics engaging and meaningful while fostering strong relationships with her students. By creating a supportive learning environment and maintaining high academic expectations, Lysiak helps students develop both the skills and the confidence they need to succeed.

Her contributions extend far beyond the classroom. Lysiak coaches, serves on the school's Building Level Planning Team and regularly volunteers her time and talents to support school initiatives. Whether working with students, collaborating with colleagues or stepping up to tackle a new responsibility, she consistently demonstrates a willingness to go above and beyond.

Paul described Lysiak as the kind of educator who recognizes a need and takes action without hesitation, always keeping students at the center of her efforts.

Her passion for teaching, strong work ethic and dedication to the Dolphin family have made her an invaluable member of the MMHS faculty.

Inclusion Teacher of the Year: Shannon Wiley

In Wiley's art classroom, creativity knows no boundaries. His commitment to ensuring students of all abilities feel welcomed, valued and capable of success has earned him recognition as Marathon Middle High School's Inclusion Teacher of the Year.

Wiley approaches teaching with the understanding that every student brings unique strengths, talents and challenges to the classroom. Through patience, compassion and creative instruction, he finds meaningful ways for students to participate, express themselves and experience success.

Paul praised Wiley's ability to maintain high expectations while providing the individualized encouragement and support students need to thrive. His classroom is more than a place to learn artistic techniques; it is an environment where students develop confidence, celebrate their individuality and discover abilities they may not have realized they possessed.

Perhaps the greatest measure of Wiley's success is the enthusiasm his students bring to class. By building positive relationships and making every student feel included, he has created a space where students look forward to learning and feel comfortable expressing themselves.

His dedication to inclusion reflects the school's commitment to providing meaningful educational opportunities for every Dolphin, regardless of ability.

Marathon Middle High School congratulates Lysiak and Wiley on their well-deserved honors and thanks them for the lasting impact they make on students, colleagues and the school community each day.
