leadership summit

Marathon Middle High School recently hosted a collaborative leadership session bringing together Principal Christine Paul, Michelle Molargik of Franklin Covey, student leaders, and the school’s leadership team to deepen the school’s commitment to student leadership and continuous improvement.

The meetings focused on strengthening the implementation of the Leader in Me framework, empowering students to take an active role in their learning, goal setting, and school culture. Student leaders engaged in meaningful dialogue, sharing insights on leadership opportunities, school climate, and ways to enhance peer engagement across campus.

“This work is about building capacity in our students to lead with purpose,” said Principal Christine Paul. “When students have ownership of their goals and a voice in their school, we see stronger engagement, improved behavior, and higher academic achievement.”

Michelle Molargik partnered with school leaders to reflect on current practices and identify next steps aligned to schoolwide Wildly Important Goals (WIGs). The session emphasized strategies such as student leadership portfolios, goal tracking, and increased opportunities for student-led initiatives and events.

Research-based leadership practices, such as those supported by Franklin Covey, have shown that schools prioritizing student voice and leadership experience gains in both school culture and academic performance. At Marathon Middle High School, these efforts are already contributing to a positive environment where students feel connected, motivated, and empowered to succeed.

The school remains committed to fostering leadership at every level, ensuring that all students are equipped with the skills and mindset needed for success in school and beyond.
