On March 11, seniors at Marathon High School participated in a comprehensive Senior Seminar designed to help them prepare for life after graduation. The event began with a catered breakfast before students rotated through four informative sessions focused on scholarships, career exploration, college opportunities, and effective essay writing.

Throughout the morning, seniors attended sessions highlighting local scholarship opportunities available to graduates, giving students valuable insight into funding their future education. Another session introduced students to a “mini career wheel,” allowing them to explore multiple career paths and consider options that align with their interests and strengths.

Students also learned about academic programs, workforce certifications, and continuing education opportunities available through the College of the Florida Keys. The final session focused on helping students craft strong scholarship essays, offering tips and strategies to stand out to scholarship committees.

According to College and Career Counselor Sean McDonald, the goal of the seminar was to provide seniors with practical tools and inspiration as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

“Senior year moves fast, and opportunities can pass students by if they don’t know where to look,” McDonald said. “This seminar gives our seniors a chance to slow down, learn about the resources available to them, and gain confidence as they take the next steps toward college, careers, or training programs.”

The Senior Seminar is part of the school’s ongoing commitment to preparing students not just for graduation, but for long-term success beyond high school. By connecting students with real opportunities and practical guidance, the event helps ensure that Marathon seniors leave campus ready to pursue their goals.
