Marathon Students Rewarded for Earning Industry Certifications in Technology

MARATHON, Fla. — Students in Marathon’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are reaping the rewards of their hard work and technical achievement. This week, students received gift cards ranging from $50 to $300 in recognition of earning industry-level certifications across a variety of technology programs.

These certifications, ranging from coding and cybersecurity to Photoshop, video editing, and computer hardware, represent the same professional credentials used by experts in today’s workforce. By mastering these skills and passing industry certification exams, Monroe County students are gaining a distinct advantage in the competitive world of technology.

Middle school students are also getting an early start, learning age-appropriate technology skills such as online safety, digital creativity, and coding fundamentals.

“These programs have led directly to students gaining employment right out of high school and give them a leg up on competitors. I have so many students who otherwise would not have taken a tech elective, but because of Mr. Padget’s program, it’s one of the most popular electives in middle and high school,” said Tracy McDonald, Marathon CTE teacher.

The program is made possible through the generous support of Mr. John Padget, who leads Monroe Computes and the Golden Fleece Foundation, the organization which funds the incentive program.

Leslie Holmes, Director of Career and Technical Education for Monroe County Schools, shared her appreciation, saying:

“We extend our gratitude to Mr. John Padget and the Golden Fleece Foundation for their unwavering support of students in the Monroe County School District. Their generous sponsorship of the IT Premier Pathway Program continues to empower our youth with the skills, opportunities, and confidence needed to thrive in today’s digital world. Their commitment to education is truly transforming futures.”

Through partnerships like these, Monroe County Schools continues to prepare students for success today, in higher education, and in the careers of tomorrow.
