Marathon High School Names Caden Pitcher as Sunshine State Scholars Nominee

Marathon, FL — Marathon High School is proud to announce that Caden Pitcher has been selected as the school’s nominee for the 2025–2026 Sunshine State Scholars Program.

The Sunshine State Scholars Program honors Florida’s top high school juniors who excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Each high school in Monroe County selects one student to represent their school, and from these nominees, the Monroe County School District will choose a single district representative to advance to the state-level recognition.

Caden exemplifies the qualities celebrated by this program through his remarkable academic performance, leadership, and passion for STEM. He currently holds a weighted GPA above 4.5 and achieved a perfect score on the math section of the SAT. His drive for excellence and deep curiosity in scientific and technological learning make him an outstanding representative of Marathon High School.

“Caden is an exceptional student who embodies the dedication and drive we encourage at Marathon High School,” said Principal Christine Paul. “His passion for STEM and his strong character make him an outstanding representative of our school community.”

The Sunshine State Scholars Program, coordinated by the Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of Standards and Instructional Support, connects Florida’s highest-achieving STEM students with the state’s colleges, universities, and industry leaders to promote continued innovation and excellence.
