We are going to begin the roll out of student Chromebook devices for virtual instruction by starting with our 6th grade students on Monday, August 10, from 9:00-11:30 in the bus loop at the rear of campus, which is near Miami Subs. Please remain in your car and paperwork, the Chromebook, and a charger will be brought to you. If students have their own personal device at home, there is no need to pick anything up. Please wear a mask and bring a pen to sign paperwork. Please see the HOB website and Facebook page for the dates and times of the other grade level distributions. Your child is required to have a tetanus booster prior to starting school this year. Please call your pediatrician or local health department to check your status or schedule an appointment as needed. The 680 certificates must be provided to the school prior to August 13th. Your child may not return to school until these requirements have been met.

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Life-long Buccaneer, Denise Santiago, is Horace O’Bryant School’s (HOB) new captain, according to Monroe County School District Superintendent Mark Porter. Santiago, who is the school’s current Assistant Principal, will serve as the school’s new principal beginning the 2020-2021 school year.
If and when you or your student checks grades in Focus, please be mindful of the following: X has been used as a placeholder previously to mean exempt. With online teaching/learning, we will be using the X, but it will no longer mean exempt. It will now stand for either not attempted or has not mastered. If a student has not attempted an assignment, there will be an X placed in the gradebook. If a student did the assignment but did not reach the level of mastery, an X will be used and the will be able to redo the assignment to reach the level of mastery. Teachers will communicate with students if they need to redo an assignment. If you or your student is being contacted about missing assignments, it’s because we care! We want to help overcome technology issues or any confusion while remaining sensitive to specific needs and situations. We’re learning with your kids as we go. Stay in touch with family and friends, find a support network, and talk with a trusted adult. Getting involved with others can help. For more information, talk to your school counselor. Parents/Guardians, Starting Thursday, April 2, 2020, parents/guardians will no longer need to have their children with them when they pick up meals from our drive-through locations. We ask that parents/guardians ONLY take the number of meals that they will need for the children at their homes. No meals will be available for adults. A reminder that ALL children 18 years and younger are eligible to receive a meal at no cost. Please refer to the Monroe County School District website for our expanded meal drop off locations.

AHEC has released information about the reopening of School Clinics. The hours of operation will be changed to 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily. Clinic locations and days of operation for each site are located on the Clinic Flyers. Clinics will not plan to offer COVID-19 Testing at this time. Each patient who seeks care at one of the Clinics will also be assessed prior to entering the clinic space through a clinic pre-screening. Those assessed and are deemed at risk of COVID-19 will be referred for testing at a local site. Each Clinic location will have a poster with this information posted along with the clinic phone number to contact the provider inside. They ask that you contact the provider at each clinic prior to entering the clinic, this will allow them the ability to provide the highest quality of care for you and to protect all of us during this time. Thank you to the United Way of the Florida Keys! Last week, they presented over $43,000 in Stuff the Bus Amazon gift certificates and Publix gift cards to administrators at the 16 public schools in Monroe County. We appreciate their continued support of our students!
