At this week's Monroe County School Board meeting, the board voted unanimously to approve the agreement with the Village of Islamorada for the use of Founders Park — a milestone moment for our Coral Shores Hurricanes and the entire Upper Keys community.
Superintendent Ed Tierney, along with Chairman John Dick, Vice Chair Darren Horan, Dr. Sue Woltanski, Mindy Conn, and Yvette Talbott, each signed two commemorative baseballs — one that will reside with the Village Council and one that will remain in the Superintendent’s Office — symbolizing the significance of this agreement and the collaborative spirit that made it possible.
This partnership, discussed over several months and highlighted during a recent consensus‑building session between the Village of Islamorada and the Monroe County School Board, now paves the way for major improvements to the Founders Park baseball field. These upgrades will directly benefit the Coral Shores High School baseball teams, giving our Hurricanes players a newly improved field to practice and compete on.
Tonight’s vote reflects teamwork, dedication, and a shared commitment to our students. We can’t wait for opening day and to cheer on our Hurricanes as they take the field on their new home turf.
