On Tuesday, April 28, the Educational Coalition for Monroe County (ECMC), in partnership with its youth organization Champions for Change, collaborated with several community agencies to present a Safe and Sober Prom Mock Crash and educational event for Marathon High School (MHS) juniors and seniors.

This impactful initiative brought together the City of Marathon Fire Rescue, MHS Fire Academy, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, WestCare, the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County, the Monroe County Coalition, and Marathon High School. The coordinated effort provided students with a powerful, realistic demonstration of the consequences of impaired driving and the dangers of riding with an impaired driver.

Following the mock crash, students participated in a “Know the Law” presentation and engaged in interactive, hands-on prevention activities. These sessions reinforced critical information and encouraged students to make responsible, informed decisions as they approach prom and graduation season.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all of our community partners for their dedication and commitment to student safety. Their collaboration helped deliver a meaningful and lasting message that will support our youth in making smart, safe choices.
