Plantation Key School is nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood on Florida Bay at mile marker 90. Plantation Key School services the needs of approximately 500 pre-K through 8th grade students that live in the areas of Tavernier down through Long Key (MM 68 - 93). Originally constructed in 1976, Plantation Key School has been fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since it first accepted students. 

The school slogan is: "Where the Future is in Progress".

The school mission statement is: "To Provide an Opportunity for all Students to Prepare Themselves to Live a Full and Meaningful Life in a Changing World."

To this end, Plantation Key School achieved Merit School status from 1985 through 1992 when the program was discontinued, and has an active program involving adult volunteers that log approximately 14,000 hours of service for the school annually. SAT and FCAT scores range above average across all grade levels. Indeed, Plantation Key School has been continually rated an "A" school for 16 years. Plantation Key School has earned the state of Florida 5 STAR school award for over 20 years. This achievement highlights student achievement, volunteer hours, community outreach and outstanding programs for students.

 Plantation Key School offers school-affiliated programs like National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, intramural sports, and various other organizations and associations. Students in the seventh and eighth grades may take advanced math, science or Microsoft Office Computer certification courses which earn credit at the high school level. Plantation Key School also actively works to prepare students for a smooth transition from middle school status to high school status and to encourage consistent nurturing of our youth throughout the primary and secondary school experience. 

  Technologically, Plantation Key School recently underwent an upgrade of our communication capability. We are considered a 1 to 1 campus because we provide individual computer access to all students.   All teachers have wireless tablet computers and students have chromebook computers for their daily use. Our local area network is a part of the greater Monroe County School District's fiber optic network.
