KWHS Band London Documentary
On May 8th, 2024, The Tropic Cinema premiered the documentary "Key West High School Marching Conchs in London." This film documents the KWHS Marching Band’s incredible performance during the 2024 London New Year’s Day Parade and is the product of of KWHS Conch 5 Studios Teacher and Executive Producer Ed Smith, along with three talented Student Producers: Will Forster, Valeria Juarez, and Monika Jaroszewicz. Conch Pride played a crucial role in making this happen, as the community raised over $400,000 to send 78 students and 10 chaperones to the event. Congratulations are in order for Band Director Gary Hernandez and the remarkable Key West High School Band, as well as for lead fundraisers Jamie Strunk and Rebecca Deem, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Special thanks to Chris and Carla Sloan of 2C Media for sponsoring the film's production, and to Carla Turner and her team at The Tropic Cinema for hosting free screenings and everyone in the Conch community that supported this exceptional trip.
