A small group of English Learner students from Key West High School had the pleasure of attending a special field trip to the San Carlos Theater to learn about the history of the San Carlos Theater and Jose Marti. They were able to see the swearing in of Congressman Carlos Gimenez, who shared that he was once an English Learner student. It had a huge impact on the students in Mrs. Karen Castro's class. They were impressed with Congressman Gimenez's story. They did not expect to hear that he was an EL, just as they were. Out of the 27 students, 22 are EL, representing 10 different countries: Columbia, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Cambodia and Russia. They all enjoyed the field trip and learned so much about the past and present.
