Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year

Dear Horace O’ Bryant Parents, Students, and Families,

Welcome back to the 2021-22 school year!  I hope everyone had a restful, safe, and relaxing summer.  We are truly proud of the outstanding efforts of our HOB school family, students, and staff alike, during our hybrid instructional program this past school year, for all of our amazing awards presentations and recognition ceremonies, as well as our Summer School, ESY, and Summer BEACH sessions. 

This year’s Horace O’Bryant school-wide theme is “Let Your Goals Set Sail,” to represent and celebrate a school year returning to normalcy where we can all set goals for our ongoing success.  We would like to introduce some new faces in our front office.  Mrs. Jamie Guzman, who was formerly our attendance clerk, is now the HOB Office Manager, and we would like to introduce Mrs. Nicole Gruenauer, our new attendance clerk.  Attendance will be a major focus this year, and we encourage all families to work with Mrs. Gruenauer at extension 65305 when working through attendance concerns.

 

It is important to note that we will be beginning the school day at 8:40 AM.  Students may be dropped off at 8:00 AM, and we will be providing a free morning PLUS program from 8:00 AM to 8:40 AM as well as free breakfast.  Currently, per MCSD and Department of Health guidance, masks are optional for students and staff while on school campuses.  Wearing of a mask may reduce your child’s risk of a mandatory quarantine if he/she comes in close contact with a student or staff member experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

School will begin promptly at 8:40 AM on Thursday, August 12th.  Breakfast will be served in the Cafeteria beginning at 8:00 AM.  Breakfast and lunch will remain free for the 2021-22 school year, however, qualifying families should still complete the free/reduced lunch applications that will go home on the first day of school.

Morning arrival and dismissal procedures will be the following:

Arrival:           K-5 students - through the Tunnel Door next to the Cafeteria (Right-side parent loop)

Head Start, VPK, and 6-8 students - through the Metal Gates on the left side of campus (Left-side parent loop)

                        Bike Riders - through the Ashby Street Gate

                        Students will report directly to the cafeteria and/or homeroom from 8:00-8:40 AM

 Dismissal:       Head Start (2:00)/VPK (11:00, 2:30) from the Metal Gates

K-5 students will dismiss at 3:35 from the Cafeteria Doors (Right-side parent loop)

6-8 students will dismiss at 3:40 from the Metal Gates (Left-side parent loop) for pick-up and walkers and 3:45 for bus riders

 

Parents may not drop off or pick up students at the back of campus as this is a bus loop only.  At the front of campus, we will offer a continuous drive-through drop-off/pick-up lane.  At no point should drivers park and exit vehicles in that lane.  If you need to come in to the Main Office, please park in a designated visitor parking spot. Children should enter and exit the vehicle via the sidewalk, not the outside lane.  There is adult supervision at each entrance to assure that your child makes it safely into the building.

 

Please see the HOB website for the Uniform/Dress Code Policy and Elementary and Middle School Supply lists.  For middle school students, locks will be used for both the hallway and PE lockers (if students are registered for PE).  These locks may be purchased for $6 from the HOB front office and on our courtyard during Meet the Teacher and are the only locks that can be used as these have a keyhole for administrative access in an emergency situation. 

 

We encourage parents to join us for our SAC (School Advisory Committee) meetings on the 4th Tuesdays of the month beginning on Aug. 24 at 12:15 in the Media Center. 

                       

On Wednesday, August 11th, we will hold a PreK – 8th grade Meet the Teacher from 1:00-3:00 PM.  To facilitate social distancing guidelines, families of students whose last names begin with the letters A-K will report from 1:00-2:00 and those with the letters L-Z will report from 2:00-3:00.  Elementary families should enter through the Cafeteria doors and Middle School families should enter through the metal gates.  Middle School students will report to their homeroom classroom to meet their homeroom teacher only.  Middle school students will receive their full class schedule when they report on August 12.  A sixth grade Welcome Orientation will be held for sixth grade students during first period on Friday, August 13th.

 

We look forward to an outstanding school year and have high expectations for student achievement and life-long learning.  We can’t wait to welcome all of our buccaneer students and families to HOB!
