Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority to Resume Upper Keys Drinking Water Pipe Replacement
The Monroe County School District has been working closely with the FKAA, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office in an effort to plan for a crucial water pipe replacement. Those participating in the planning process have made it a priority to try to minimize traffic impact for Upper Keys residents and, in particular, for schools as this project moves forward. The first stage of the project, which will begin work on Sunday, March 9th, will take two to three months to complete and will include an underwater pipe at Tavernier Creek Bridge. It also includes work from the Snake Creek Bridge north to Julep Road in Tavernier.
There may be traffic delays. However, the School District transportation office is actively working with FKAA and the Sheriff's Office to help ensure school buses stay on schedule.
According to details from the FKAA, there are no planned road closures or detours during the work. A second phase of work, which will take place in the vicinity of Plantation Key School and Coral Shores High School, is not slated to begin until May of 2026. There is more information available in the attached flyer, including links to a video regarding the planned project as well as links to sign up for notifications about the project.
