Marathon High School Staff Brings the Spirit with “Underground Spirit Week”

In a fun and unexpected twist, the staff at Marathon High School turned the tables last week with a surprise “Underground Spirit Week,” delighting students and energizing the campus as testing season ramps up.

Each day, teachers dressed in themed outfits without prior notice to students, adding an element of surprise and lightheartedness to the school day. Themes included Beach Day, Anything But a Cup Day, Tacky Tourist Day, and Crazy Hat Day. But the highlight for many was Dress Like a Student Day, when teachers arrived on campus imitating student style, and students were invited to return the favor by dressing as their favorite staff members.

The playful role-reversal brought laughter and connection across campus, creating memorable moments and a welcome break from academic stress.

The initiative, led entirely by Mrs. McKechnie, the Sunshine Committee chair, was a creative morale booster aimed at reinforcing school spirit during the challenging testing season. Faculty and students alike praised the week for its positive impact on the campus atmosphere.

Even Principal Paul participated, with her culminating outfit being a spot-on rendition of Marathon's own Justice Lee, triple state gold medalist and class president.
