Nominations Now Being Accepted

It is time to begin the process of selecting the Teacher of the Year (TOY) and Inclusion Teacher of the Year (ITOY). Please note, Beginning Teacher of the Year (BTOY) nominations and voting will take place in the spring.  Please read through the information below and follow the link to submit a nomination. Nominations are open to staff, teachers, parents and community members, but only MHS teachers are eligible to cast a vote. 

 

Teacher of the Year- MHS Nomination is due to district 10/18

Teacher of the Year candidates shall have a track record of a positive impact on student learning.

  • A positive impact on student learning can be reflected in the form of achievement, learning growth, or a combination of the two.  Available data will be reviewed by the selection committee in context by comparing performance to school, district, state and/or national performance as appropriate
  • Examples of data may include but are not limited to: proficiency rates on IB, AP, AICE, EOC and FSA assessments, Music Performance Assessment scores, VAM scores, CTE Pass Rates, learning growth on FSA grade level assessments
  • Teachers who have recent VAM scores that are not classified as at least Effective using the State Board of Education’s approved methodology will not be considered.
  • Teachers need to have three or more years teaching experience in Monroe County School District.
  • Please note- teachers will be notified if they are nominated and must agree to complete the district TOY application in order for their name to be on the ballot. 

 

Inclusion Teacher of the Year- MHS Nomination is due to district in November

Inclusion teachers are educators who maintain a general education classroom with the enrollment of at least one student with special needs while establishing and maintaining a classroom where each of their students is welcome and attended to. Some of the inclusion teacher duties are listed as follows:

  • Collaboration
  • Attends to the requirements detailed in the Individual Education Plans of their special needs students
  • Plans lessons and classroom activities as the special education teacher who pushes in or as a general education teacher with the help of the special education teacher according to the child’s need.
  • Gathers information on the student’s strengths and weakness and develop ways to address them by reviewing past performances on state tests, semester exams, or report cards and the student’s personal history.
  • Opens a line of communication between the student’s parent to provide progress and request feedback to share with the special education teacher and other team members.
  • Sets up a cooperative teaching that uses a variety of styles to fit student need, prior to the student’s introduction and throughout their time in the environment.

 

 

Procedures for Nominating TOY & ITOY:

 

  1. Nominations begin today and close Friday, September 27 at 3:00 PM.  
  2. Use the link to nominate individuals.  For each nomination, you will fill in the name of the person and write a brief (2-3 sentences) description of why the teacher would be an excellent TOY or ITOY candidate.
