Congratulations to Mrs. Smith on her new postiion at KWHS!
Superintendent Theresa Axford has announced that Nicole Smith will move to the assistant principal position at Key West High School in January. Smith, current assistant principal at Horace O’Bryant School, was given the opportunity to move to the high school level and sees it as an avenue to continue to grow as an administrator. She fills the position vacated by Melissa Alsobrooks who moved to the Director of Accountability and Assessment. Smith brings a familiarity with ESE, AVID, PBIS as well as K-8 curriculum development to her new role, all of which will assist her. Superintendent Axford believes that “Nicole possesses the right mix of leadership skills and love for education that will suit the great community at Key West High School.” Smith has been at Horace O’Bryant School for ten years as a teacher and administrator. She was named District Teacher of the Year in 2016 and Assistant Principal of the Year in 2021. She holds a Bachelors Degree from Edinboro University in Special/Elementary Education, a Masters in Special Education from Old Dominion University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. “This was a difficult decision as I love being a part of HOB, however, I feel that it is a wonderful opportunity that will allow me to expand my administrative skills,” said Smith. “I know a lot of the students and I am excited for this new experience.” Smith will start in her new role on Jan. 3.
