    Marking the Text
    is an active reading strategy that asks students to identify information in the text that is relevant to the reading purpose.  Encouraged in classrooms district-wide, Marking the Text uses selective underlining and highlighting as a study and comprehension tool.  For more information on Marking the Text, click here.

    Professional Development -
    One key element for promoting student success is providing Professional Development Support. This website provides resources for follow-up, classroom implementation, and assistance related to professional development offerings in the district.

    The Monroe County School District uses Edivate (formerly PD360) from School Improvement Network as a professional development tool to help teachers reach their goals and increase student achievement.   

    The Edivate video library has thousands videos of best practices and real classroom examples featuring top education experts (including the Danielson Framework Alignment and videos on Common Core Standards). Best of all, video training is convenient—where you want it, when you want it, and you can pause anytime. You can even access the Edivate video library on your mobile device!

    Library management is now done through Destiny, a powerful tool for a web-based solution that allows teachers and students to access library information from school and home.



    Video Resources
    Looking for some video resources to use in your classroom?  Thinking about flipping the classroom??  Check out !  They offer videos on a wide variety of educational topics.  All Khan Academy content is available for free at www.khanacademy.org.  


    The nonprofit Teaching Channel  has posted scores of excellent Common Core videos since their launch a year ago.  The site is free, but it does require registration for use.  https://www.teachingchannel.org/

    On-line Introductory RtI Course 
    The online introductory RtI Course, originally developed and hosted by the University of South Florida has been updated and revised in collaboration with the Florida Center for Interactive Media (FCIM) based on user feedback and the on-going development of Florida’s RtI efforts.  It can now be accessed by anyone athttp://www.florida-rti.org/introCourse/.  This professional development tool is excellent for independent or group study, particularly to build initial awareness, understanding, and practice with case studies.  For questions related to content, please contact Heather Diamond at heather.diamond@fldoe.org.  For technical questions, please call (800) 357-1072 or email your question(s) to support@fcim.org.



    School-to-Home Communications

    Monroe County School District uses the Blackboard Connect (formerly NTI/Connect-Ed) system to schedule, send, and track personalized voice messages to thousands of students, parents, and staff for attendance, emergencies, events, activities and weather bulletins concerning school closures.
