MYCP Implores Parents Attend Feb. 11, 13 Town Hall Meetings

KEY WEST (150 words) – County-wide officials are looking for the solution to deal with the increase in youth drinking and house parties. Keys parents are concerned and outraged about passé attitudes toward house parties that brew risky and often life-threatening behaviors.

In response, Monroe Youth Challenge Program has partnered with the Monroe County School District to host a “Turn On The Lights” Town Hall Meetings at the Marathon High School Auditorium Monday, Feb. 11 and Key West High School Auditorium Wednesday, Feb. 13. Both meetings are set for 6 p.m.

The problem teens face is not a new one, it’s just more enhanced because of the changes in today’s culture. Parents with children of any age are asked to attend this town hall meeting.

From underage drinking to the choking game, the guest speaker intends to discuss current youth trends in the Keys. The dangerous behaviors of youth have no boundaries, no race, religious or socioeconomic limitations.

This meeting is for adults only. Students or children are not permitted in the auditorium. Free child care is provided in separate rooms with age-appropriate activities. A reception follows immediately.
