The median age at which children begin drinking is 12. Young people who begin
drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence
than those who begin drinking at age 21. Its imperative we support all school
curriculums and staff with these important drug free messages, Booker said.
Other Red Ribbon Week activities included a coordinated effort for the
anti-smoking campaign truth truck to visit several schools countywide. It
resulted in more than 1,500 students signing post cards to be mailed to major
magazines asking them to stop publishing cigarette ads.
