MYCP Promotes Responsibility to Keys Elementary Students

KEY WEST (217 words) – Through an innovative, large three-screen multimedia presentation elementary school students and teachers throughout Monroe County heard “Count on Me” April 28 – May 2. The content of each “Count on Me” show is produced to reach students with a positive, powerful message about responsibility.

The larger-than-life presentation incorporates select major motion movie clips, top-of-the-chart music, positive scripts, and a story about middle school students who have rescued and cared for more than 3,300 dogs and 500 cats in four years.

Each student is challenged and motivated to be responsible for themselves, others and the world.

Monroe Youth Challenge Program contracted Motivational Productions out of Texas to provide “Count on Me” student assemblies for more than 1,000 elementary students Keys-wide as part of its mission.

Roxanne Skaggs, a fifth-grade teacher at Stanley Switlik Elementary and 2007 Monroe County Teacher of the Year said, “I thought the program was very relevant to elementary kids. It showed real-life examples of responsibility as well as ideas to apply to their own lives.”

Monroe Youth Challenge Program is a project of the Monroe County Education Foundation to foster acceptance, respect, and success in the youth of Monroe County. For more information about this project or any other MYCP-sponsored program call MYCP Director Sunny Booker at (305) 293-1400 ext. 53319 www.monroe.k12.fl.us/mycp.
