Letter in Support of MYCP:
As
Superintendent of Monroe County School District, I am proud to partner with
Monroe Youth Challenge Program. This collaboration gives us a wealth of
resources and opportunities for our students. I am committed to the school
district’s mission: Student Success – Whatever It Takes. MYCP has proven
it supports our mission.
Monroe County has some of the highest numbers of risk factors
working against student success because of our location, logistics, and
demographics. When I saw the difference MYCP made on the overall spirit of
our students and the increased likelihood of safer campuses I wanted to see
more being done to support this community-based effort.
We
have partnered with MYCP to provide programs in each of our middle and high
schools in the county. Interestingly, it has a trickle-down effect even in
the elementary and preschool programs through student-created projects in
which they teach their younger peers. I believe these programs help to
establish positive relationships within the entire school community;
relationships which are necessary to achieve true success.
The
school district recognizes what a powerful package MYCP has created and has
embraced it with the hopes this partnership will become a model program for
other counties to adopt.
