MYCP Hosts Annual Awards Celebration May 10

MARATHON, FL (301 words) – With the school year coming to a close it’s time to celebrate student honors. Monroe Youth Challenge Program, a grass-roots non profit organization that runs programs on every school campus in the county, plans to host its annual awards celebration to recognize community partners and outstanding student participants Thursday, May 10.

The banquet is set for 6 p.m. at Sombrero Country Club in Marathon because of its central location and ability to host the anticipated crowd. “After the success of last year’s banquet and enthusiasm of the parents and partners, we look forward to another meaningful night for our youth,” said MCYP Director Sunny Booker.

At last year’s celebration, Monroe County Superintendent of Schools Randy Acevedo awards Katie Greenman of Marathon High School with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for providing more than 100 valuable service hours to the community. This year’s MYCP Annual Awards Celebration is set for Thursday, May 10.

A slide presentation showcasing this years’ major programs and signature events sponsored or hosted by MYCP is set to be shown. Special emphasis is placed on service learning projects and partnerships with grant providers like State Farm. Other awards like the President’s Volunteer Service Award, issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States, is planned for presentation to students that night. “The highlight of the night is the student reflection. To hear what students have learned this year and how they have received an opportunity no other organization could provide them is a thrill for parents, sponsors and MYCP volunteers,” said Booker.

Tickets are available at $15 for adults and $8 for students. Reservations are required. All invited youth may attend regardless of ability to pay. Donations to underwrite their tickets are appreciated. To RSVP email nancylucas@bellsouth.net or call Sunny Booker at (305) 797-1328.
