The Achievement Gap is a primary focus for our school district.  I know by this point that each are working on closing the gap for targeted students. Please share what is being done different from past years for these students.

Together we are leading the way in Student Success: Whatever It Takes! A member of State School Board visited our district and was impressed with our science curriculum and has asked for a follow up letter. If you have some input on how the State Board can help us do a better job, please let me know so I may consider including your thoughts in that letter.

Sincerely,

Superintendent

Keep Your Eyes on the Budget

The MCSD Board agenda has been posted. Principals are urged to look at it so they will be aware of discussions taking place. The major issues cover the budget for both the remainder of this year and for next year. The district has already had to give back money twice this year, the first time in recent memory. There will be opportunity for discussion at the next DPT meeting; board members are to be present. My top priority is to protect people and to reduce positions while saving money for raises.

ESE Self Assessment Results In

Each principal was a given a binder with complete results of the self assessment conducted earlier this year. There are a few areas of concern, particularly with IEPs. Principals and APs need staff support to reinforce the systematic change that is required by the DOE.

After School Program Clarification

In regards to the 21st Century funding, it's important to note that:

  1. After school must be after school -- not before school

  2. Science must be offered in the after school program

  3. Service learning must be part of the after school program

  4. Character education must be included at all schools
