What is the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards? The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an organization of teachers and others committed to teachers who are working to strengthen the teaching profession and to improve student learning. The NBPTS Board of Directors is made up of 63 members and most of them are classroom teachers. Teachers also serve on standards committees and assessment development teams, pilot test portfolio exercises and score the portfolios and performances submitted by candidates for National Board Certification.
